FSSAI

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is a regulatory body established under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. It is responsible for setting standards for food safety and regulating the manufacturing, processing, distribution, sale, and import of food to ensure its safety and quality. FSSAI's mandate includes monitoring and enforcing food safety regulations across India to safeguard public health and promote consumer confidence in the food supply chain.

 

FSSAI Food Registration -

FSSAI stands for food safety and standard authority of India which is a legitimized autonomous institution under the ministry of health and family welfare and governed by food safety and standard ACT - 2006 with an objective to regulate, register, govern, and issue FSSAI registration to food business operators in India.

It has sets of rules and guidelines under food safety standard regulations 2011 to ensure the quality of products. It manages food testing standards and testing protocols to curtail contamination and illicit practices in the food industry.

Documents required for online FSSAI registration (Food license)

FSSAI Basic registration

  1. General documents required for basic FSSAI registration.
  2. Authorized person address proof such as Aadhar card, driving license, PAN card
  3. Passport size photo
  4. Business name and address
  5. Form IX nomination of a person as per FSS rules
  6. Details of directors/ proprietors and executive members
  7. PAN and bank details
  8. Nature of business details
  9. NOC from the municipality or panchayat
  10. Proof of the premise ownership or rental agreement
  11. NOC from the owner of the rented property ( if rented )

FSSAI State License

  1. Form-B Duly completed and signed by the proprietors, partners, or authorized signatory
  2. Copy of certificate obtained under COOP-ACT, 1861/multistate COOP-ACT, 2002 in case of cooperatives
  3. Partnership deed/ memorandum and article of association toward the constitution of the firm
  4. Layout plan of the processing unit showing the dimensions in square meter/ meter ( mandatory for manufacturing and processing units only )
  5. Authorized letter with name and full details of the responsible person nominated by the manufacturer and alternative responsible person
  6. List of directors, proprietors, and executive members of society or trust with full detail
  7. Name and list of all the equipment and machines along with numbers installed capacity and horsepower
  8. Chemical and bacteriological analysis report in case of water used as an ingredient.
  9. IE code document issued by DGPT
  10. Recall plan wherever applicable
  11. Certificate provided by the ministry of tourism
  12. Form IX
  13. Declaration in the case of Haryana and Delhi
  14. Food safety and management plan

FSSAI central license

  1. Form-B Duly completed and signed by the proprietors, partners, or authorized signatory
  2. Form IX – nomination of a person by the company along with the board resolution
  3. NOC and a copy of the license from the manufacturer are mandatory for repackers only
  4. Ministry of Commerce certificate for 100% EOU
  5. NOC/PA Document issued by FSSAI
  6. IE code document issued by DGPT
  7. Supporting document for turnover proof
  8. Source of raw materials for meat and meat processing units
  9. Certification from the ministry of tourism
  10. Source of milk or procurement plan for milk including the location of milk collection centres
  11. Layout plan of the processing unit showing the dimensions in square meter/ meter ( mandatory for manufacturing and processing units only )
  12. List of directors, proprietors, and executive members of society or trust with full detail
  13. Name and list of all the equipment and machines along with numbers installed capacity and horsepower
  14. Food safety and management plan
  15. For transporters-supporting document proof of turnover or self-declaration of numbers of vehicles
  16. Copy of certificate obtained under COOP-ACT, 1861/multistate COOP-ACT, 2002 in case of cooperatives

FSSAI Registration Process

Step-1 Online Application

FBOs must file for the Online FSSAI registration on FosCos respectively according to the nature of their businesses. Then upload all the required supporting documents along with the FSSAI registration fee.

After the successful submission, an application reference number will be provided to them, which can be used to track the status of the application.

Step-2 Inspection by FSSAI authorities

The FSSAI food safety officer will conduct a thorough inspection of the premises to ensure that all the necessary compliance and food safety norms are followed.

Step-3 Clearance for approval

After the adequate assessment of the business premise and document, verification. Approval for issuing of FSSAI registration or licence will be given by the Food safety officer to concerned licensing authorities.

Step-4 Issuance of license

Once the approval is granted, FSSAI will issue a unique 14-digit numerical registration number, which shall display during business hours and must be printed on all the products.
